Our Team

Every member of our team is professionally qualified and has individually amassed many years’ experience advising on company sales. We do not employ junior or unqualified staff.

Why is it important for highly qualified and experienced individuals to work with you throughout the sale process?

Andrew Coates Director

Since our Managing Director Andrew Coates established Strategic Corporate Finance in June 2000, we have completed almost 80 transactions.

Highly respected among clients and the business community, Andrew’s accolades include receiving a South Yorkshire “Dealmaker of the Year” award from the esteemed Yorkshire Business Insider.

With over 20 years experience of carrying out company disposals, corporate acquisitions and management buyouts, Andrew champions the firm’s “hands on” director led service and is proud of Strategic Corporate Finance’s powerful reputation for delivering excellent results in finding buyers for companies.

He says: “As a boutique dealmaker we negotiate focused and clear commercial terms which avoid the potential for misunderstanding – project managing these transactions through to legal completion.

Because we only work on a handful of transactions at any time, our clients are guaranteed a high level of service. Our track record speaks for itself: we have sold virtually every business we have ever taken on as a client.”

In the knowledge and understanding that the majority of clients sell their business only once in their lifetimes, Andrew and the team recognise how the outcome of a company sale impacts on their clients, family and staff.

He adds: “Our proven high quality professional service – which supports you throughout the journey – includes conducting detailed, comprehensive and methodical research into potential buyers. Our proven and expert approach to support our clients throughout the process ensures they achieve the best available deal.”

Greg Barker Director

Greg qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant with Deloitte in Nottingham before joining Strategic Corporate Finance in 2006. Since then he has advised on numerous company disposals and developed a wealth of knowledge and experience.

The key to successfully advising clients on disposals, according to Greg, is not only expertise of the sale process but also “going the extra mile” to ensure the deal is completed.

He says: “Selling a company is rarely straightforward. There are always challenges to overcome which means you need an adviser who is on hand to provide a personal service. At Strategic, we provide a professional, director-led service to all clients and pride ourselves on the results we achieve”.

Greg adds that the current economic climate shouldn’t be a barrier to those wishing to sell: “There is no shortage of buyers for quality companies, as cash rich UK and international corporates seek out growth avenues in an otherwise difficult environment. The current tax regime for vendors is also unprecedented.”

Greg is also experienced in dealing with management buy-outs, acquisitions, valuations and fundraising – enabling him to consider the wider perspective in giving advice.

Catherine Gordon Associate Director

portrait

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) in Birmingham, Catherine was a financial analyst at HSBC before progressing to be a key member of a pro-active M&A team of a listed telecoms business.

In this role Catherine worked on transactions primarily centred on the acquisition of technology companies – and included project managing the post-acquisition integration of a wireless network planning business with 200 employees located in UK, USA and Australia. She also handled some company disposals.

After a short spell as a small business adviser – which included advising on exit plans and business valuations – Catherine joined the corporate finance team at Deloitte in Nottingham to carry out business development – a role she performed for five years. She also regularly supported the deal team by conducting research into potential buyers for privately owned businesses across sectors including: retail, security, electronic manufacturing, health and residential care.

Prior to joining Strategic Corporate Finance, Catherine worked as the business development manager for a small firm of accountants, but couldn’t resist the lure back into the world of corporate finance.

Catherine leads our business development activity.
